School District of Clayton

Curriculum Learning Objectives

Dear Parent / Guardian:

Within the School District of Clayton we offer a rich, diverse curriculum focused on preparing students to be college and career ready by the time they graduate from Clayton High School.  Elementary school is a key stage in setting the foundation for this work by teaching our students to be critical consumers of information and allowing them to explore diverse subjects in a variety of ways.  From kindergarten through fifth grade, students build solid foundations in reading, writing and mathematics.  In social studies and science, they learn to question, explore and expand their knowledge and understanding of themselves and the world around them. Music, art, Spanish, technology and physical education provide opportunities for students to discover their unique talents and help to develop the whole child.

The elementary curriculum outlined within this website provides a broad picture of each of the curriculum areas at the kindergarten through fifth grade level in the School District of Clayton.  Parents may choose to use the information presented here to engage children in conversation about what they are learning at school.  The Learning Objectives listed also help to explain the desired outcomes that our teachers have for each of the different areas of study.

If you have questions about the curriculum or the Learning Objectives, please feel free to contact the classroom teacher(s), building principals, curriculum coordinators or myself.

Sincerely,

Milena K. Garganigo
