Mrs. Kay’s Information “Short” List

Change of Dismissal Plans:  If your child will be going home in a different way, please send a note that day to let me know.  This is for your child’s safety.  If something bubbles up during the day regarding your child’s dismissal, please call one of our wonderful secretaries (Mrs. Porter or Mrs. Kopp) in the front office at 314-854-6300 so that I can be made aware of the change.

Backpack:  Your child’s backpack is the closest thing we have to a mailbox.  Folders will be sent home in the backpack each day.  Please check your child's on a regular basis.  If you have notes, completed forms, or other information for us at school, place it inside of the folder for important "two-way" communication!

Lunch:  Your child is learning to sign-in as a “Lunch #1”, “Lunch #2”, "Lunch #3, or “Bringer” each morning.  Meramec colleagues  Mrs. Moses, Mrs. Dahl, and Mr. Leto will coach them through lunch recess and lunch.

Snack Calendar:  A snack calendar will be sent home monthly.  We will ask you to provide a healthful snack for your child and his/her classmates.  Snacks must be peanut-/tree nut-free and store-purchased per School District of Clayton guidelines.

Parent Volunteer Calendar:  Same as the snack calendar!  I hope to utilize you all during our daily Writing Workshop (10:45-11:30).  And look for opportunities as Field Trip Chaperones.  The children love to see their parents at school.

Quiet Time:  We will have a “Cozy-In” time daily. Please send a favorite (but small) towel or blanket.  Space in the cubbies is somewhat limited!  I’ll remind the children to take home their “cozies” for washing every other week.

Footwear:  The PE teachers ask that children wear tennis shoes to the daily gym class.  Your child may keep an extra pair of tennis shoes and socks in his or her cubby if preferred.  Beware of Crocs . . . on the playground and carpet these shoes can prove quite troublesome (falling off!) and even a bit unsafe (falling down!).

Temperature:  One of the unique qualities of life in St. Louis is that the temperature tends to be either hot or cold and not much in between.  You may want to send an extra sweater or sweatshirt for your child (we can store it in a cubby!).

Staying in Touch:  I hope you will e-mail or call whenever you (or your child) have a question or concern or you just want to check in.  I will retrieve e-mails and voicemail (854-6317) in the evening.  (The children keep me very busy during the school hours!)
