Meramec Elementary School

Daily Snacks

Second graders have an opportunity each day to eat a small, heathly snack.  These snacks must be tree nut and peanut free.

Birthday Practices

    * It is a tradition that second graders bring a small snack to celebrate their birthday at school.
    * Please give advanced notice if you are planning to send treats for your child's birthday.
    * Remember that all classroom treats must be peanut and tree nut free.
    * Store-bought treats only are allowed.  Teachers are required to check the label to determine  if ingredients are safe for all students. (Please save your delicious, homemade treats for at-home celebrations.)
    * Treats that can be easily passed out are best.

Guidelines for Birthday Treats
Small and individually portioned (nothing that needs to be cut)
Food allergy policy is applicable
Identical size and flavor/color so that no one feels cheated
Napkins (& plates if needed) are important
No drinks, gifts or other extras, please!

Treats can be brought/sent in the morning and will usually be served during a short break in the afternoon.  We keep it simple at school in order to preserve instructional time.  Please save your special family celebration for time at home.
