Dear Sixth Grade Students and Parents,
For the last quarter of the year, we traditionally put a set of expectations into place for students to guide them to a successful conclusion to sixth grade. We are looking forward to two major culminating events, the pool party on May 29 and a sixth grade celebration on May 30. Students’ academic performance and positive behavior will earn them a spot in these activities. The expectations are as following:
Academic Expectations
To help your child with these academic expectations, any time a student does not have his or her homework completed at the beginning of class, the student will be given a lunch detention. If the student does not complete the assignment during lunch, he or she will be given an after school detention to be completed on team. If the student fails to show up for a lunch detention he or she will be given an after school detention. If the student fails to show up for an after school detention, he or she will be given an after school detention with Mr. Petty. This will also result in a behavior referral.
As students transition to seventh grade, we are taking this time to emphasize academic expectations. Students should be taking advantage of opportunities for making up work as well as getting support before, during, and after school. We, as teachers, also take responsibility for communicating home when the student is at risk of failing.
Behavioral Expectations
Each office referral from any teacher, core and elective, counts as a strike. Office referrals occur when students violate major school rules.
Your child will be bringing home a paper copy of this letter on Monday, April 15th. Please detach the slip and sign it to show that you have reviewed this information with your child. Your child should return this slip to his/her homeroom teacher by Friday, April 19.
Thank you!
