Gifted Program Sessions/Courses
Identified gifted learners in grades 2-5 participate in grade level Extended Learning sessions with a gifted specialist for a minimum of 150 minutes weekly. In grades 6-8 gifted students may elect to take Exploratorium, a daily course taught by a gifted specialist. In grades 9-12, there are many honors classes and advanced placement courses available to students, a curriculum that is a testament to Clayton High School’s ranking as number one in the state of Missouri. In addition, there is learning support and guidance available through the gifted learning center and an elective course, Independent Learning Endeavors.
Central to the gifted curriculum is critical and creative thinking while supporting students in learning about self and one’s unique capabilities. At Clayton, once identified for gifted services, the designation continues throughout the grade levels. There are before and after school clubs available at the elementary schools and there are a variety of extracurricular opportunities for students at the secondary levels which meet gifted learners’ passions and interests.
