Two Teachers and a Baby:
Baby Landon News
and a Message to My Students and Parents

For those of you who do not know, my wife and I are expecting our first child. Originally due in September, it looks like Landon Michael has decided that he would like to grace us with his presence a bit earlier than expected. He should be here very soon!!!

As teachers, my wife Ashley and I know how important the beginning of the school year is. Though I wish I could be there on Orientation Night and on the first day of school to welcome the Team 6C students and parents to Wydown, most likely I am going to be needed elsewhere for the first few days of school. I am excited, however, that my students will be fortunate enough to be welcomed by former Wydown math teacher and Math Specialist Jeanette Oesterly. My mind is at ease knowing my math students and parents are in the best of hands while I am away.

Ashley is doing well and we are both anxiously awaiting baby Landon. I will keep everyone posted with the exciting news through Jeanette and the other Team 6C teachers.

To My Daddy's Other Kids and Families:
A short thank you note from
Landon Michael Powers

Thank you so much for understanding that I need my Daddy at home right now to hold me, to feed me, and to help take care of my mommy. I hope I get a chance to meet all of you sometime soon.

This I Believe

Teaching is both a science and an art.

There are no shortcuts.

To lay the strongest foundation in math, you must build conceptual understanding, computational fluency, and the capacity to problem solve.

Problem solving is what you do when you don't know the answer.

Grades are important, but they are not everything.

I love the contest winners, I love the strugglers, and I love all the ones in-between. I love that I get to teach all of them not some of them.

I love kids and I love teaching math
